The Columbia Valley has partnered up with Second Harvest Food Rescue.  This partnership is so exciting on so many levels!  First: another source of food to provide for our clients and second: food items are not being discarded.

Second Harvest is Canada’s largest food rescue charity with a dual mission of environmental protection and hunger relief.

They redistribute nutritious, unsold food from across Canada to charities, non-profits and Indigenous communities in every province and territory. Their free, essential service helps nourish people through school programs, seniors’ centers, shelters, food banks, and regional food hubs.

The food we are rescuing and redistributing to our clients in the Columbia Valley is primarily perishable: fruits, vegetables, meat, cheese, juice, milk and more. Everything we redistribute is perfectly good food that has been donated because it is unsold surplus.

In over 35 years, Second Harvest has rescued over 177 million pounds of healthy food, keeping it out of landfills and preventing 192 million pounds of greenhouse gases from entering our atmosphere.

If you have a surplus of nutritious unsold food and would like to be a part of this program, please contact us here.
