An Egg- citing Recovery mission on Highway #1 near Roger’s Pass
How is it this happens when it’s that time of year when bountiful and gratitude are in the air?
What happens when a semi-load of eggs goes off the highway and tips over into the ditch?
Eddy Leigan, Food Recovery Contractor for Golden Food Bank, leaps into action and heads out with his delivery truck to locate it. Once he does, he clambers down into the ditch to transfer as many of the dozens of boxes as he can to haul back to the Golden Food Bank.
As you may guess, many of the eggs are “pre-scrambled”- What a job!
So he contracts a few members of the Golden hockey team along with his whole family (who volunteered !) to sort and re-package them.
He then calls Nesta Becker from the Columbia Valley Food Bank offering to share the bounty….as many dozen as possible!
Next hurdle- how to get them down to Invermere? So, Mike Hunter, a regular CVFB volunteer, offers to make a trip to pick them up (and besides, he’s looking for ways to entertain his house guest over the Thanksgiving weekend).
Result of the rescue mission? – Dozens of dozens of eggs for our clients!
An item that we don’t usually provide in our hampers.
Talk about a WIN – WIN
Our fridges are bountiful and we are grateful!
